JOANNA

Meet Jo, born in Poland and raised in Germany, her journey is as diverse as her background. 

A teacher by profession, she’s worked with young minds both ashore and aboard cruise ships, where she immersed herself in different languages and cultures. 

Beyond teaching, Jo’s palate is her passport to adventure, indulging in culinary delights from across the globe. While she may not wield a chef’s apron, her love for food knows no bounds. 

She finds joy in the simple pleasures of life. Amidst life’s hustle, Jo finds solace in the quiet moments, savouring the warmth of a cup of moderately strong coffee, a cherished ritual that speaks volumes of her romantic spirit.

Jo can converse in Polish, German, or English, albeit with varying degrees of proficiency.

ALFRED

Introducing Alfred, born in India and raised in United Kingdom, his story unfolds across continents and cultures.

As a ship’s officer whose job has whisked him across the globe, Alfred’s passion for exploring new horizons knows no bounds. 

When he’s not charting courses, Alfred finds joy in the simple pleasures—a day filled with sports under the sun’s warm glow or indulging in the rich tapestry of flavours that the world has to offer.

Alfred can converse in English or Malayalam.

2020

A MARITIME STORY

Somewhere out in the Caribbean, I joined Joanna for lunch. Smitten by my charm, Jo agreed to ‘pass by’ the party that was taking place that tonight.

It was the Valentine’s Day party for the ship’s crew, where we spoke late into the night.

Night ended, as we both had jobs the next day and we parted with a plan to meet again.

BRUNCH BY THE SEA

Finally, Alfred takes me out on our first real date outside the ship. It was brunch by the blue waters of the Bahamas.

It was at the Ocean Club, where we enjoyed a nice meal, a long walk on the beach and their private grounds; there was even a wedding taking place.

2020

REUNION IN BERLIN

We had spent seven months together and went through the pandemic’s challenges together. Jo had gone home first and a month later I joined her in Berlin.

We gave it a chance and explored the culinary offerings from Berlin throughout our time there.

From shared living to a beautiful rooftop Airbnb, local kebabs to Michelin star restaurant. Jo and I truly had an beautiful time.

LARA’S ARRIVAL: OUR FAVOURITE CHAPTER

On a fine evening in March, Lara joined us and from that moment forth, we became three and our life was full.

We watched each other grow to face life’s challenges as parents. It changed us individually and together, our relationship maturing with it.

2023

FOREVER

Jo and I found love and respect not only as a partner but also as a parent.

Our days would be busy and we would only have some shared moments to reconnect with each other. It was bliss, time would slow down and we savoured it.

I spent months having a perfect ring crafted to my specifications and I proposed in Jo’s mum’s place in the Black Forest. Snow capped mountains and trees overlooking that moment.

I got my yes.
